Church Minshull Bridge

Church Minshull Bridge is on Cross Lane at Church Minshull, Grid Reference SJ66755 60644.

In 1853 a report inthe Chester Courant tells us that Mr. Corbett said the contract with Richard Dukers, for keeping in repair the county length of road at Church Minshull Bridge, was to be cancelled. Mr. Corbett explained in what respect the contractor had neglected his duty, and said that 20s. had not been laid out on the road for the last two years.

In 1870, the Highway Board for the District of Northwich were inviting tenders for the erection of a bridge over the River Weaver, between the townships of Wimboldsley and Church Minshull.

At Cheshire Quarter Sessions, in 1878, it was agreed that a grant be made of a sum not exceed ing £170 for the purpose of repairing Church Minshull Bridge.

Church Minshull Bridge would be very familiar to A N Hornby, the famous cricketer. He lived there, with his family, for a time before moving to Nantwich. You can read more about A N Hornby here.
