If you have ever seen any old footage of trains being built in “the works”, you will not be surprised the the railway company decided to build its own hospital. This was built on Mill Street, at the Eastern End of Oak Street:
In fact there were that many accidents at Crewe Works, which required artificial limbs, that when World War One took place this hospital’s expertise was invaluable for treating the wounded.
