Regent House, like its next door neighbour Warwick House (on the left in the above picture), is a Grade Two listed building. The site of these premises is on a bend in the High Street, where it is believed that originally it was going round the site of Nantwich Castle. The current building was was built after the Great Fire of Nantwich in 1583. Sash windows were added in the late 18th century and the original triangular gables were removed and replaced by a row of upright timbers. The shop front was modernised in the 20th century.
The building has had a variety of uses over the years. Around 1900 it was occupied by a cycle shop called Regents Cycles. In Kelly’s 1914 directory it is occupied by the the Raven Cycle Company Ltd. who were cycle manufacturers. In 1936 it was still a cycle shop, called Henderson’s.
It later became Vernon Cooper, a local TV and radio shop, which became part of the Rumbelows Group.
From 1999 it was occupied by Mia Stanza, a local furniture shop for a couple of years
before they moved to larger premises in the Manor House.
The building is currently occupied by a charity shop, which raises money for Hope House Children’s Hospices.
On 11 March 2021 a car crashed into the building. As a result the building is being made safe.
