The Crown

£2.95

This booklet, by Andrew Lamberton and Bill Pearson, tells the history of this historic Nantwich hotel. The hotel’s cellars date back to at least the 14th century. The Crown has been used as a church, a court, and plays used to take place here.

There is an account of a landlord of The Crown’s murder, in 1572, and changes over the years to this Grade I listed building. There is also a long list of famous guests who have stayed here, these include members of the Royal Family, Franz Liszt (the composer), and celebrities – including Jon Pertwee (Dr Who) who brought one of the Daleks, and three different Formula One Champions.

This booklet contains much more material about The Crown then we had space for in the Nantwich Pubs book.

Nantwich Museum are grateful to Bill Schofield (whose father bought The Crown in 1962 and saved and restored it) for permission to use some of his old photos in this publication.
