MILLENNIUM GALLERY

Ela trained as an artist in her native Poland and currently splits her time between Poland and Cheshire, where her children and grandchildren live. ‘Lazy Afternoons in Cheshire’ is a series of twenty paintings that were inspired by walks she took while staying with her family during lockdown in 2020. These vibrant paintings combine abstraction with recognisable elements of local landscapes.

COMMUNITY GALLERY

14 Oct – 25 Nov – Wonders of Colour

We live in a very colourful world. But how much of this colour is natural and how much comes from man-made sources? Using objects from our collection and stories from the town’s history, ‘The Wonders of Colour’ illustrates the impact of technology on dyeing, painting, stained glass and food colour.

Associated with the exhibition are talks at 7pm on Thursday evenings ,including on 13 Nov ‘The art of colour’ by our in-house artist, Les Pickford, and on 20 Nov ‘Indigo – everyman’s dye’ by historian Graham Dodd. And on Sat 15 Nov we will be screening the film ‘Loving Vincent’, about the painter Vincent van Gogh. Tickets for these events are available from the Front Desk or though the Events page of the website.

The exhibition, devised by the Museum’s Research Group, continues a long-standing theme of the Museum to bring to life the history of science subjects. We are grateful to the Royal Society of Chemistry for financial support.
