Landscapes to Surrealism
2 December to 15 February 2025
This exhibition by local artist Ray Perez uses strong colours and a variety of techniques. This includes water colour, gouache, oil, acrylic and coloured pencil to portray a wide variety of subjects from local landscapes to abstract and surrealism.
Ray Perez trained as a graphic designer and has travelled widely, using the photographs he has taken to develop his artwork.
The Royal Rumble
7 January to 8 February 2025
This exhibition showcases the English Civil War collections of the Grosvenor Museum, Chester and includes arms and armour, coins and medals of Charles I, Cromwell and beautiful bone dice. The exhibition places the spotlight on Chester and the English Civil War – the series of 17th century conflicts fought between the Royalists, also known as the Cavaliers who supported King Charles I, and the Parliamentarians, derided as the Roundheads, who opposed his rule. Visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about contributing factors to the War and the city’s part when Royalist Chester was besieged by Parliamentarian troops.
The exhibition has been designed by undergraduate Archaeology students at University of Chester as part of their final year module in Archaeology and Contemporary Society.
