Joseph Priestley – Discoverer of Oxygen

Joseph Priestley, most famous for his discovery of oxygen in 1774, was a renowned scientist, innovator, theologian and prolific writer. Priestley spent three years in Nantwich from 1758-1761, while still a young man, as a non-conformist minister and school teacher before his big discovery. This booklet explores this remarkable man’s time in Nantwich including where he may have lived, his chapel and school. A summary of his later life and discoveries is also included.
