We aim to offer a range of talks throughout the year. These are our upcoming talks.

Illustrating History by Les Pickford
Pictures are powerful things, more easily remembered than words. So when history stories meet their images the results can be interesting!
The talk looks at some of the ways artists have not only recorded history but how their images have coloured our own views of history.

A Crewe Factory Girl – the Life of Ada Nield Chew by Graham Dodd
The story of Ada Nield who came to prominence locally at the turn of the nineteenth century when she fought to improve conditions for those working in local clothing factories. She went on to campaign on behalf of the Labour movement, trades unions and for women’s suffrage before running her own business.

Nantwich Drovers by Wyn Jones
Droves have taken place from pre-historic times up and until the late 19th century with the arrival of the train. The talk provides a brief history of Drovers from North Wales, how droves were arranged, the routes taken, and their social and economic impact. The talk will also address local indications of Drovers.

The Life and Achievements of William Fawcett – Engineer by Trevor Evans
Although not quite in the first rank of engineers in the late Georgian and Victorian period, William Fawcett, from Liverpool, established an enterprise that outsold Birmingham’s Boulton and Watt in selected markets.
As for a Nantwich connection, Trevor has uncovered an albeit rather tenuous link, with one of the town’s most famous residents. A story of steam, enterprise and bankruptcy.
The Narrow Escape out of Hell by Graham Dodd
Saturday 14th December 3.30pm-4.30pm
The story of prisoners of war in World War 2 with particular reference to those held in local camps and hostels.
