William Kent was a Nantwich man, who came from a line of apothecary surgeons (all called William Kent). After training to be a surgeon he joined the Royal Navy. He accompanied Charles Darwin on HMS Beagle in the 1830s. This is a fascinating, and hitherto untold, account of how a Nantwich man was involved in one of the most important scientific discoveries of the modern day.
