The Sequestration Papers of Orlando Bridgeman

£4.99

Sir Orlando Bridgeman played an important role in the early days of the Civil War in Cheshire. He initially took on the government of Chester, along with Lord Kilmorey, ensuring it for the King. After the Battle of Edgehill had failed to produce a resounding victory for either side he was involved in the discussions with the local Parliamentarians on a county-wide peace. This resulted in him being one of the signatories of the Bunbury Agreement of 23 December 1642. Later he prepared the ground for the English forces returning from Ireland during the last quarter of 1643, by sourcing clothing and footwear from north Wales and local Cheshire suppliers. These forces were amongst those defeated at the Battle of Nantwich. He eventually went on to become the Lord Chancellor to King Charles II.
