Description

Nantwich lies at the junction of the Chester Canal, one of the earliest canals of the eighteenth century, and the Birmingham & Liverpool Junction canal, the last of the major narrow boat canals to be built. The two canals became the Main Line of the Shropshire Union Canal. The town is also close to the junctions with the Ellesmere (Llangollen) Canal and the Middlewich Branch linking with the Trent & Mersey Canal. This is the story of the local canal.
