Nantwich Cotton Mills

£3.95

This booklet describes the cotton industry in Nantwich.

The booklet covers the near 100 years of cotton spinning in Nantwich. The Cotton Spinning Process is explained, using photographs from both Quarry Bank Mill and the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.
One chapter has a reproduction of Cotton Manufacture in Nantwich by W. H. Chaloner – which was first published in Johnson’s Almanac in 1938.

The booklet includes old maps, showing the locations of the two mills. Newspaper articles give an insight into the workings of a Nantwich cotton mill around the beginning of the 19th century.  There is also an anaylsis of the people who worked in the mill. There are pictures of Nantwich Mill before the fire in 1970, and its subsequent demolition.
