Nantwich Bridge

Nantwich Bridge

Nantwich Bridge, is where Welsh Row crosses the River Weaver in Nantwich. It is situated at Grid Reference SJ64947 52390. It is also known as Welsh Row Bridge and was formerly called the Welsh Bridge. This bridge was built in 1803, and replaced a 17th-century stone bridge. Prior to that there was a timber bridge known as the Wich Bridge,  first mentioned at the end of the 14th century. It was described as having a chapel and shops on.

In 1621 it says “Namptwich Bridge, for cart (over Weaver) in decay, but built new since then.”

Nantwich Bridge is a Grade II listed building. There is a benchmark on this bridge, for more information visit Nantwich Museum’s Benchmark Trail.
