Sir Edmund Wright was born in Elizabethan times in Hospital Street, Nantwich and later moved and became Lord Mayor of London. We don’t know exactly when he as born, but St Mary’s Church Parish Registers records his baptism on 24th November 1573. He left Nantwich before he was 18, and became a very successful merchant in London. He became an Alderman and then Lord Mayor of London – an office which he held on two occasions.
Most Nantwich people know him because of the Wright’s Almshouses which still bear his name.
